The original reasons that brought holidaymakers to the Algarve region of southern Portugal are still the main ingredients of anyone’s holiday there, those being great summer weather and golden, sandy beaches. But there are many regions of Europe that can offer equally great weather and equally stunning beaches. So what is it about the Algarve that brings people back time after time? Well the answer to that question is exactly the conundrum the tourist authorities in the area must be considering each and every year and so far they seem to have worked out the answers because people still regard this region of southern Europe very highly.

Holiday resorts now need to consider their total offering and not just rely on the traditional headliners like weather and beaches to bring in the crowds. Those other factors can encompass all kinds of things such as sympathetic commercial development, attractive public areas, wide choices of restaurants and cafes and also a choice of cultural, historic and fun attractions.

Holiday attractions may include things like theme parks, dedicated play areas for children and specialist water parks. The Algarve has an abundance of theme parks. Aqualand is one of the biggest water parks on the Algarve and is located between Portimao and Albufeira near to the town of Alcantarilha. This vast complex features a full range of typical water park features such as a rapids ride, normal swimming pools, a wave pool and various water slides. Visitors typically pay a fixed daily fee to stay in the park as long as they wish. Other water parks include Slide and Splash near Lagoa, which has been in business for twenty years and Aquashow near Vilamoura where the massive water rollercoaster claims to be the biggest in Europe.

Six miles outside Albufeira is ZooMarine, one of the most visited holiday attractions on the Algarve. The park is home to dolphins, seals, crocodiles, tropical fish and birds. Unlike many parks along the Algarve, Zoomarine is open all year round although the schedule of audience shows is quieter during the winter period.

As you would expect for a mature and well established holiday area, the Algarve has a huge selection of high quality hotels. Many of the original hotels that were constructed in the 1970’s have subsequently been subjected to complete rennovations in order to compete with the newer, more modern additions that have been built in recent years. The Algarve was amongst the first holiday areas to introduce the concept of gated resorts around a golf course, where villa-style accommodation was offered within the confines of a private club.

Several of these golf resorts are situated near Vilamoura and provide options for holidaymakers wishing to rent a villa, whilst at the same time having the benefits of shared services like swimming pools, gyms, restaurants and of course golfing options.

The whole coast along the Algarve is dotted with a range of beaches from Tavira in the east, through Quarteira and Vilamoura and on to the busy resorts of Santa Eulalia and Praia da Rocha. Two of the most beautiful bays that have wonderful beaches are at Albufeira and further along the coast between Alvor and Lagos.

Cultural events are also very important in the Algarve. These range from traditional town fairs that have been taking place for many hundreds of years to newer events that have specially created to enhance the holiday experience for visitors to the area. Traditional events such as the annual carnival events in the period before Lent take place in many of the towns and villages along the coast, but are not devised just for tourists. Carnivals take place all over Spain and Portugal and in the Algarve towns like Faro and Tavira. Loule is said to host the biggest of the annual carnivals and even levies a small admission fee to visitors. All of the carnival events in 2010 are set to take place on the weekend of 14th February. An example of one of the non traditionalevents is the Noche Blanco, an evening celebration of art and culture, when everyone wears white clothing. (Similar events are also held in Madrid, Brussels and Valetta on Malta and are set to become popular in other cities across Europe). The Algarve also stages a number of large-scale outdoor music events and now also promotes a series of international motor sport events at the recently-built international motor circuit near Portimao.Post source:http://www.article-buzz.com/Article/The-Algarve-In-Portugal/520734

Kerala, The God’s Own Country is full of options so far someone’s choices of destinations are concerned. The followings are some recommendation for kerala tour packages with brief descriptions which will help you to follow an itinerary by which you can cover the key destinations as per your requirements in Kerala. In south Kerala you can visit the places like Trivandrum, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha. Thiruvananthapuram’s centre can be explored easily on foot, though you might be glad of a rickshaw ride back from the museums and parks, close to the top end of the MG Road. The historical and spiritual heart of the city is the Fort area, at the southern end of the MG Road, which encloses the Shri Padmanabhaswamy Vishnu temple. En-route is the main shopping district, which is busy all day. One of the Malabar Coast’s oldest harbours, Kollam (pronounced “Kollam” and previously known as Quilon) is located 74km northwest of Thiruvananthapuram and 85km south of Alappuzha. It was once a centre of the international spice trade. Nowadays, Kollam is chiefly of interest as one of the entry or exit points to the backwaters of Kerala. Most visitors travelling north between Kollam and Alappuzha, or southwards in the opposite direction, do so by boat- either local tourist-office cruisers or privately chartered Houseboats (Kettu Vallam). In central Kerala, the most visited places are Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur etc. Some of 76km southeast of Kochi and 37km northeast of Alappuzha, Kottayam is a compact, busy town of Kerala strategically located between the backwaters and the mountains of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Some of the scenic backwater panorama of Kerala lies around Kottayam. Probably the ideal destination- the beautiful Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary lies on the Shore of Vembanad Lake to the west. The Periyar Wildlife sanctuary is amongst the most visited wildlife sanctuary in India. Located close to the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, Periyar makes a convenient destination to break your long journey across the Ghats between Madurai and the coast. The splendid Munnar is located 130km east of Kochi and 110km north of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Ernakulam presents the modern face of Kerala, with more of a big-city feel than Trivandrum. Thrissur is a bustling market hub and temple town roughly midway between Kochi and Palakkad. It is a convenient base for exploring the cultural riches of Central Kerala. The town prides itself on being the cultural capital of Kerala. The state’s largest temple, Vaddukanatha is also located here. Thrissur is best known to outsiders as the venue for Kerala’s biggest annual festival Puram, which takes place in April / May. In Ernakulam one can go for a sightseeing tour including St. Francis Church, Santa Cruz Basilica, Dutch Palace, Jewish Synagogue, and Hill Palace Museum etc. In north kerala you can visit places like Malappuram, Kozhikode, wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod etc. Formerly one of Asia’s most prosperous trading capitals, the busy coastal city Kozhikode, (Calicut) 225km north of Kochi, occupies an extremely important place in Kerala’s legend and history. It is also significant in the chronicles of European involvement on the subcontinent, as Vasco da Gama landed at nearby Kappad beach in 1498. The beautiful, lush hill district of Wayanad is located at a distance of 70km from Kozhikode. It is one of the most scenic regions of the God’s own country Kerala. The main attraction is the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary- a park splits into two separate zones, Muthanga and Tholpetty. Chenbra Peak at 2100m is the highest point in the Wayanad region, dominating the landscape for miles around. The beautiful coast north of Kozhikode is a seemingly endless stretch of coconut palms, wooded hills and the virtually deserted beaches. Most of the tourist whom bypass the small fishing towns ranged along it completely – missing out on the chance to see theyyam, the extraordinary masked trance dances that take place in villages throughout the region between November and May.

Antarctica, magnificent in its beauty and unmerciful in its brutality, is a land unto itself. Every other continent has spilled the blood of man through war. Even so, this single continent dwarfs both America and Europe combined. Due to it’s harsh conditions, no germs can survive leaving men to die more to violent deaths than to natural. No other continent has seen such differing views on faith and politics work together so flawlessly. All of this happening only inches away from temperatures reaching 100 degrees below zero. It is a land of voracious appetites where American consume four meals per day without the slightest weight gain as the brutal cold burns calories quicker than any diet.
